There are some rings, that I only wear on specific occasions or when I am in (or want to) experience certain mood; there is also ring that I always wore, because I want to to represents „me“ and every moment I experience since its birth.

But this then leads to a conundrum, technically for it to carry my existence, it shall be worn by me for every minute every second; on the other hand, they’re also my most precious ring, which means I don’t really want it to carry scars of those times I want to simply left behind.

What makes this worse is, often time, the instances which caused the ring to have deeper scars キズ, tend to turn into the moments I dislike the most (‘cause they damaged my precious).

But on the other hand, one can argue not always wearing it may in turn make it missed those moments that suddenly turn from meh to nice memories (that now carries weight).

Second topic, is it possible to remove those „unwanted scars“? Following is three methods I can think of for now:

1. Polishing

2. Melting it and re-make

3. Adding material

First, my issue with polishing is it can potentially remove some material.

As for melting and re-making it, although the raw material is preserved, one may say the original’s craftsmanship is lost during this process.

Last, adding material introduces foreign stuff that didn’t experience the past moments like the other part of the ring. In some cases, I might resist adding material even more than losing material?

But nonetheless, you can also argue that in the flip side the process of 新品仕上げ, regardless of the process that’s used, is the journey itself - just that this might be a more significant point in the journey, perhaps something like opening a new chapter.

Still, I think we also need to be cautious that this won’t turn into a slippery slope. Even if I wish the ring might stand for eternity, the reworking will probably eventually reduce the material of the ring. (So perhaps make it limit to what’s been provided in the after-service from the original purchase?)
